What to Expect

We believe that addiction is an all encompassing process in which no family member comes out unscathed. The primary focus is usually on the person struggling with substance use disorder and at Family Workshops we address the family system as a whole learning techniques on how to adjust and adapt in order to recover. Through an intensive 3 day workshop families will be educated around the disease of addiction, what the 12 steps mean for family recovery and how unresolved issues of the past can play a role in how they are experiencing the present. Families will be able to interact with others who are going through a similar process – the beginnings of formulating a support group. Families will have an open discussion with a panel of both individuals and families in recovery. Program participants will be able to both experience and witness how the family dynamic in addiction operates through our group process. The observer perspective is essential in developing behaviors most conducive to creating and maintaining a healthy recovery process.

Upon leaving the 3 day workshop families will be able to:

  •  Identify their role in the family system
  •  Identify how that role recreates pattern of dysfunction
  •  What the 12 steps for a family in recovery looks like
  •  What their own relapse pattern could be (identify triggers, coping mechanisms)
  •  Develop healthy boundaries with their addicted family member and others
  •  How to continue their process of recovery moving forward

The Family Program at Michael and Jennifer’s Weekend

Families gain insight on structured model to utilize leverage, confrontation and leveling to better understand recovery from addiction. Most addicts and alcoholics coming out of treatment have a recovery plan, families are often left to figure things out on their own. Together, family members address the challenges of denial, enabling, and pain while creating and developing communication skills designed to create transparency and accountability.

You will learn to be courageous by being vulnerable. You will learn tools such as leveling, confrontation management and leveraging when dealing with others. You communication skills will improve and shame will be eliminated.

Family Program will help families understand the need to create an entirely new family structure to address relapse behaviors. Family Program will help you navigate this difficult time while giving you tools you can use anywhere and in any situation.

We will create a plan of success for the entire family, with the goal of brining everyone back together. Addiction is a family disease and our program will help you find the solutions you need to be a healthy, happy family. You will get to interact with other families and learn that you are not alone.

Families will learn how to apply principles of recovery to their own lives and begin to believe their happiness and wellbeing does not have to depend on the behaviors of the addicted individual.
